Founded in 2010, StateoftheART is an online-first contemporary art gallery representing a carefully curated selection of established and emerging South African artists. While collectors browse and purchase works online from across South Africa and internationally, the gallery also offers private viewings by appointment in Stanford, where original artworks can be experienced in a welcoming home environment rather than a traditional white-cube gallery.
Inspired by Stanford In Bloom and this year’s theme, After the Fire, StateoftheART presents Rooted, a group exhibition exploring renewal, resilience, beauty and our connection to place through a thoughtfully selected collection of contemporary South African art.
Presented within a beautiful home overlooking the Klein River and an indigenous fynbos garden, the exhibition invites visitors to experience art as it is intended to be lived with. Landscapes, portraiture, abstraction, sculpture, ceramics and works on paper are displayed throughout the home, encouraging visitors to imagine how original art can enrich their own living spaces.
The exhibition features works by Lisette Forsyth, Laurel Holmes, Kendall-Leigh Nash, Pascale Chandler, Corné Eksteen, Sylvester Zanoxolo Mqeku, Jo Roets, Lorna Scheepers, Joanna-Lee Miller, Claudia Treagus, Claude Chandler and Kitty Dörje, showcasing the diversity and strength of contemporary South African artistic practice.
Whether you are an established collector, searching for your first original artwork or simply looking for a unique cultural experience during Stanford In Bloom, Rooted offers an opportunity to discover exceptional contemporary art in an intimate and inspiring setting where home, landscape and creativity come together.
